Obesity and Sex

Person on scaleTo say that obesity negatively affects sex lives may not be a startling revelation but a new study published in the online edition of the British Medical Journal (BMJ) did provide greater insight in how obese women are more psychologically affected.

Some of the findings included:

  • obese women use the internet to find sexual partners more than thinner women
  • obese women are more likely to be in a relationship with other obese of overweight partners
  • obese women are less likely to use contraception and less likely to be prescribed contraception
  • obese women are 4x more likely to have an unwanted pregnancy
  • obese men are 2.5x more likely to have erectile dysfunction
  • obese men are more likely to contract a sexually transmitted disease

Data was collected on more than 12,000 French men and women. 3,651 women and 2,725 men were normal weight, 1,010 women and 1,488 men were overweight and 411 women and 350 women were obese. For more information about the study follow this link.
