FDA List of Approved Drugs During Pregnancy

Submitted by admin on Friday, January 8 2010No Comment

Pregnancy and medicationsThe FDA is working on a list of approved drugs for use during pregnancy. Since medications are not generally tested in this population, it is difficult to find a list of approved medications for breast-feeding or pregnant women.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does however publish a list of 16 websites that provide links to organizations outside the CDC that provide important information. These organizations include The American Academy of Pediatrics, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, The National Institutes for Health and U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The National Women’s Health Information Center provides a database of resources and a Q & A section on pregnancy and medication that is helpful and informative.

If you have questions about specific medications , be sure to speak with your Ob/Gyn or general practitioner.
