H1N1 (Swine) Vaccine Update

Here’s what we know about the H1N1 (Swine) flu vaccine according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

  • CDC anticipates that 2 doses of the vaccine will be needed for children under 10
  • 1 dose of the vaccine is needed for people 10 and older
  • 195 million doses of H1N1 vaccine will be made available
  • 90 million doses will likely be released beginning October
  • Live, attenutated H1N1 flu vaccine is administered nasally and is not for  people under 2 years of age or older than 49; is not for anyone with chronic diseases or pregnant women
  • There is a good match between the H1N1 vaccine and the circulating virus
