Submitted by admin on Friday, September 25 2009No Comment

Here’s an update about the spread of the H1N1 influenza virus as/the Centers fo Disease Control (CDC) as of 9/18/09:

  • currently the U.S. is experiencing double the number of influenza activity for this time of year
  • flu season has started earlier with children and young adults being hardest hit
  • all 50 states are reporting H1N1 flu activity with 21 states reporting widespread activity
  • flu activity is greatest in the southeast part of the country, in line with the earlier start to the school season
  • so far, there has been no increased virulence of the virus compared to the spring/summer
  • analysis of all the influenza viruses submitted for testing to the CDC, show that the vast majority of the viruses are H1N1
  • the H1N1 flu vaccine (which should be available for release early October) remains a good match for the circulating H1N1 flu virus
