The da Vinci Surgical System: Minimally Invasive Surgical Option

Submitted by admin on Monday, July 20 2009No Comment

The da Vinci surgical system is a robotic surgical system that consists of 3 to 4 robotic arms that are controlled by the surgeon who sits at a console using his feet and arms to move the robotic arms. This type of surgery offers more options for the individual who in the past would have undergone major surgery, that is, surgery involving large incisions.

In the past, surgeons could use two surgical methods – laparoscopic surgery in which tiny incisions are made in the body through which instruments are then directed. Because this type of surgery is minimally invasive, patients have faster healing times and less pain. The drawback is that laparoscopic surgery was often limited to simple procedures.

With the advent of the da Vinci surgical system, surgeons are now able to perform complex surgeries such as cardiovascular surgery that previously involved large incisions that split open the sternum. Using a series of small incisions through which the surgeon’s tools are inserted, complex surgeries can now be performed laparoscopically.

Currently, cardiovascular, urological, gynecological and other general surgical procedures can now be done. To find if this surgery is appropriate for you, check out the website entitled davincisurgery.
