Several commentators were chuckling about Joe Biden’s uncensored comments when asked what advice he is giving his family members about the H1N1 virus during one of the morning TV talk shows. His off-the-cuff, albeit honest response, showed an incredible lack of judgement and understanding about the spread of H1N1 virus.

For those of you who may have missed his gaffe, he emphatically said that he has told everyone in his family not to travel on planes or trains because of breathing recycled air etc etc. He sounded like any other uninformed person in the community. 

For those who think that his comments were refreshingly honest, I would argue that as Vice President of the U.S. he should have made it his business to be better informed about how the virus is spread, rather than scaring many Americans. The problem with Joe is that he continues to forget that his role as a public figure demands of him a higher level of understanding and awareness.
