Center for Science in the Public Interest: Nutrition Action Health Letter

Submitted by admin on Wednesday, April 15 2009One Comment

CSPI, a non-profit organization, was started by three scientists in the ’70s to help solve health and environmental problems and to encourage other scientists to get involved in public health arena.

Over the years, CSPI resume of accomplishments is impressive. Among other things, they have:

  • standardized labeling of food products
  • defined and standardized organic labeling practices
  • pushed for easy-to-read, standardized nutritional food value charts found on all food products
  • exposed the excessive calorie counts found in fast food products and have been instrumental in getting national food chains to post those counts
  • led the movement to have junk food advertisement removed from kids’ tv programming
  • been instrumental in phasing out trans-fats from food.

Sometimes referred to as the “food police”, this group of dedicated scientists have helped to improve the quality of the foods we eat by the enormous amount of research they have conducted and the evidence they have presented to Congress in advocating on our behalf, to have standards applied throughout the food industry.

Best of all, they take no money from corporations or government relying solely on support from the public. They publish a great monthly newsletter called Nutrition Action Health Letter with short, practical and easy to understand articles about all things nutritional.

Check out their website – if you’re at all interested in your nutritional health, you’ll find a lot here to read.
