Evidence-based Diet Guidelines for People With CHF

Submitted by admin on Monday, March 30 2009No Comment

The American Dietetic Association released evidence-based dietary guidelines for people who suffer from congestive heart failure, or CHF. Why is this important? Evidence-based guidelines are based on the systematic review and analysis of clinical research in order to improve patient outcomes.

Guidelines now recommend that CHFers get nutritional advice from registered dietitians. Studies show that several visits with a dietician improve the patient’s quality of life through reducing edema, fatigue and possibly decreasing the number of hospitalizations.

So if you suffer from CHF or know anyone with it, encourage them to speak with their provider about seeing a registered dietitian. Evidence-based dietary guidelines enable us as providers to provide better, more cost-effective care for our patients and ultimately, benefits all of us.
