Anabolic steroids are a derivative of the hormone testosterone and have been used by athletes to build muscle mass and increase endurance. Consider the following side effects of taking anabolic steroids:
- stunted growth in young people
- decreased sperm production
- testicular atrophy (shrinking)
- baldness
- development of breast glands (in men)
- psychotic episodes
- depression
- mood swings
- liver cancer
- kidney damage
- increased irritability and aggression
