Coronary Artery Stents: How They Work
Did I mention that my father was giving himself his own cardiac stress test while golfing this year? Yup, he developed chest tightness every time he pulled his golf cart up the hill. After a couple of months of this, he noticed that it really started to bother him going up the cellar stairs – and that’s when he took notice and decided to call his provider.
Within the week, he was undergoing a stress test and since he failed it, he wasn’t allowed to go home. He was admitted immediately to the hospital but since it was the weekend and he didn’t have a heart attack during the test, he stayed in until the Monday where he underwent coronary artery stent placement. (He had a 90% blockage of one of his major vessels.)
So let this be a lesson to all you golfers – chest tightness or discomfort or pain on the golf course = immediate need to see your provider and have a stress test. And by the way, he’s doing GREAT!! I expect he’ll whop the pants off me in golf this year.

Good post! Particularly since the heart issues seem to present most strongly during very cold or very hot weather (some people golf in both) when the symptoms are exacerbated by hydration problems, as you pointed out in a previous post.
Wish your Dad the best. Oh, and practice. Remember: drive for show, putt for dough. Or, as my father used to say, — well, that’s best left unsaid.
